Course Description

This course provides essential awareness-level training for employees who may encounter or identify patients contaminated with hazardous materials in healthcare or emergency response settings. Participants will gain a basic understanding of hazardous materials recognition, safety procedures, notification protocols, and their role in supporting emergency response operations. It is recommended for employees responsible for identifying contaminated patients, as well as those supporting operations-level responders, in accordance with OSHA Best Practices Table 4 Training Requirements.

 

 

Learning Goals and Objectives

- Understand the role and responsibilities of Awareness-Level personnel during hazardous materials incidents.

- Recognize signs and indicators of hazardous materials contamination in patients and healthcare environments.

- Identify hazards and risks associated with hazardous materials incidents.

- Learn proper notification, communication, and emergency response procedures.

- Explain OSHA Best Practices and Awareness-Level training requirements.

- Recognize methods for protecting themselves, patients, and coworkers from hazardous exposure.

- Support Operations-Level responders through effective communication and scene awareness.

- Promote workplace safety and preparedness during hazardous materials incidents.

Grading Policy

This is a pass or fail course. A minimum of 70% is needed on all quizzes to pass the course. Two attempts on each quiz are given.
